Appointments & Consultations

  • Do I need an appointment? Yes. Needle & Stitch is a by-appointment-only studio. Walk-ins are not accepted.
  • What happens during a consultation? A consultation includes garment evaluation, discussion of alteration options, pinning when appropriate, and an overview of pricing and timeline.
  • Is there a consultation fee? Yes. A $36 consultation fee is required for all appointments. The fee is credited toward your alterations if you proceed. Consultation fees are non-refundable.
  • Can I get an estimate before booking?Sometimes. You may text or WhatsApp clear photos and details for a general price range. Final pricing is confirmed in person.
  • Can I bring multiple garments to one appointment? Yes! However, to ensure we have enough time to evaluate everything, please select the specific multi-garment option that matches your item count when booking your appointment online.Bringing extra unlisted items may require us to schedule a follow-up appointment.

Pricing & Estimates

  • How are alterations priced? Alterations are priced based on time required, complexity, fabric/construction, structure (lining, boning, embellishments), and materials used.
  • Does the original price of my garment affect alteration cost? No. Pricing is based on the work involved, not the retail value of the garment.
  • Why don’t you list fixed prices online?Because every garment is different. Accurate pricing requires seeing the garment in person.
  • Are estimates guaranteed? Estimates are based on the scope discussed during the consultation. Changes to the plan may affect final pricing.

Bridal & Formalwear

  • When should I book my bridal alterations? Bridal gowns require a longer timeline due to their complexity. We highly recommend booking your initial consultation 2 to 3 months before your wedding date or portrait session.
  • How many fittings do wedding dresses require? Most bridal gowns require 2 to 4 fittings to achieve a flawless, secure fit. Your final fitting is typically scheduled 2 weeks before your event.
  • Can I bring guests to my bridal fitting?Yes, you are welcome to bring up to two guests whose opinions you trust. Space in the studio is limited, and a smaller group ensures a calm, focused environment for pinning your gown.
  • Do you create bustles? Yes. We design custom bustles (French, American, or ballroom) tailored specifically to your gown's train, fabric weight, and design.

Alterations & Custom Work

  • What types of alterations do you offer? We specialize in high-quality garment alterations, including bridal, formalwear, vintage, and complex structural work.
  • Do you offer custom garments or redesigns? Yes. Custom work and redesigns are offered selectively and require a consultation. For custom-made garments, contact us directly.
  • Can you recreate a garment from a photo? Photos may be used as inspiration, but exact replicas are not guaranteed.
  • Can all garments be altered? Not always. Some garments have strict construction or fabric limitations. If a project is not viable, we will let you know during your initial consultation. When planning your alterations, please keep the following structural and design factors in mind:Mobility vs. Aesthetics: A garment must remain functional. For example, if you want your elbows completely covered even when lifting your arms, you may need to add extra inches and compromise slightly on how the garment looks when your arms are resting down.Mixing Fabrics: Adding a new fabric can look beautiful, but if it has a different weight or feel, it may cause pulling issues when you move or sit—especially across zippers.Deconstructing Garments: Using a second identical garment as raw fabric for sleeves or length comes with risks. We cannot guarantee how it will behave because we have no control over the factory grainline.Fast Fashion Limitations: Mass-produced garments often feature hidden construction flaws. While these flaws are masked when a garment is oversized, they usually become highly visible once the item is tailored to a smaller, more precise fit.Our Policy: We cannot be held responsible for fast-fashion construction flaws, structural issues from a client's choice of secondary fabric, the unpredictable behavior of harvested fabric, or mobility limitations that were not explicitly addressed prior to tailoring.
  • Will my garment look original after alterations? We often refer to ourselves as garment surgeons. Our goal is for your garment to look like you never brought it to us at all. We do not cut corners and aim for the cleanest result possible.
  • Do you repair holes in knits? Yes. We offer professional knit repairs, including closing holes and reinforcing damaged areas.
  • Do you work on corsets? Yes. We work on corsets, boning repairs, and structured garments.
  • Do you alter leather garments? Yes. We alter and repair most leather garments depending on condition.
  • Do you repair shoes or bags? For shoes and bags, we recommend a specialized shoe repair shop.
  • Do you offer measurements only? Yes. We offer professional measurements for garments made by third-party designers or manufacturers. What does this service include?Accurate body measurements, organized documentation, and posture notes when relevant. How much does it cost? $75 for standard measurements and $95 for complex garments or multiple pieces. This service is non-refundable.Are you responsible for fit issues? No. We are not responsible for fit issues caused by third-party pattern drafting or construction.
  • ADDITIONAL SERVICES: Do you convert bras into nursing bras? Yes. We convert regular bras into nursing bras for $12 per bra.

Studio Policies & Etiquette

  • Is a deposit required? Yes. A non-refundable deposit is required to begin work on any garment. The deposit is applied toward the total cost of approved work.
  • Why are deposits non-refundable?Because work begins shortly after approval, including planning, scheduling, and often sewing.
  • Do you offer refunds? No. All alteration and custom services are non-refundable once work has begun.
  • What if I change my mind after approving the work? Once work has started, services remain non-refundable, scope changes may result in additional charges, and partially completed work must be paid for.
  • Can you refuse service? Yes. Needle & Stitch reserves the right to decline or discontinue service due to disrespectful behavior, unrealistic expectations, or boundary-crossing communication.
  • Can I bring children to my appointment?Children are welcome only if supervised at all times. The studio contains sharp tools, industrial machines, and very hot irons.

Fittings & Pickups

  • What should I bring to my fitting? Please bring the exact shoes you plan to wear, and any undergarments, shapewear, or bras you intend to use. Proper items ensure accurate pinning. We cannot cut or hem a garment based on estimated heel heights or different undergarments.
  • What if I forget my shoes or undergarments? Fittings can still happen, but accuracy may be limited. Additional fittings may be required if key items are missing.
  • What happens if my body measurements change after my fitting?Your alterations are tailored entirely to your body measurements during your initial fitting. We are not responsible for garments that do not fit due to subsequent weight loss, weight gain, muscle growth, or pregnancy. Fixing these fluctuations will incur new, separate charges.
  • Should my garment be cleaned before my appointment? Yes. All garments must be clean and laundered. We are not liable for any shrinkage or warping that occurs if a garment is washed or dry-cleaned afteralterations. Vintage fabrics are altered entirely at the client's own risk.
  • How many fittings are required? Most standard alterations require one to two fittings. Complex garments, formalwear, or structural work may require additional fittings.
  • What happens if I’m late to my fitting?Late arrivals may result in reduced fitting time or rescheduling, depending on availability.
  • When do I pay the remaining balance? The remaining balance is due at pickup or final fitting, unless otherwise discussed.
  • How long do I have to pick up my garment? Completed garments should be picked up within 14 days of notification. Garments left beyond this period may be subject to storage fees.
  • What if I don’t pick up my garment?Garments left unclaimed past 90 days will be considered abandoned and will be donated or disposed of after reasonable attempts to contact the client.
  • Can someone else pick up my garment for me? Yes, as long as they have your name and confirmation. Payment must be completed before or at pickup.
